5. What Does an “Extra Shot” mean in coffee?
Someone actually googled this question and ended up on my other blog (I have some posts about coffee). Since it’s a question I thought I would answer it anyway.
When it comes to coffee, the amount of espresso (very strong coffee made with a special machine – an Italian steam machine that speeds up the process of making coffee- and very finely ground coffee) is measured in shots. These shots are the same measurement used with alcoholic beverages. The number of shots in a drink increases the coffee flavor and the caffeine intake.
So let’s say you are at Coffeebuck. There faux Italian sizing system includes words like Grande and Venti but for the sake of clarity, lets say a small, medium and large. Their small has one shot, their medium has two and their large has three. So if you order a Grande with an extra shot, you get three shots in your drink…the extra shot makes it stronger.
